This blog will be used to document my experiences, thoughts, and emotions as I set out on my third adventure living in Spain.
I have received a scholarship to study bilingual education at the Universidad de Alcala in Madrid, Spain. I am leaving my career and the new life I have started in Boston to have this experience. I see it as a kind of “do-over” and a chance to really think about what I want out of life, now that I know what having a 9-5 job is really like.
In 2005 I lived in Spain for four months as a study abroad student. Again, I attended the Universidad de Alcala, but this time in the small town of Alcala. It was a wonderful introduction to Spain, and it was the perfect study abroad experience. It was then that I fell in love with Madrid.
After college, in September of 2006, I moved to Spain with my best friend since fifth grade. We moved with no place to live and no jobs. We were very lucky to quickly form a close circle of friends, find an awesome apartment, and score illegal, under-the-table teaching jobs which often required working for over 14 hours a day, and paid us monthly in an envelope full of cash. Again, best experience ever.
